VEIL is custom-perforated steel. Every panel is made to order, from a DXF file generated by the specifier in VEIL Studio. This post explains the manufacturing sequence — from the moment the DXF arrives at the factory to the moment the crated panel leaves for site. Made in days. No shortcuts. No compromise on specification.
Step 1: DXF received
The production process begins when the DXF file generated in VEIL Studio arrives at the factory. The DXF is a production-ready file — it contains the exact cut geometry for the panel, including all perforation positions, sizes, and edges. No redrawing. No interpretation. The file is the brief.
Step 2: Laser cutting
The DXF goes directly to the laser cutter. The laser cuts the perforation pattern and panel outline from steel sheet stock, following the file geometry with sub-millimetre accuracy. Cut edges are clean — no secondary deburring required. Each panel in the batch is cut individually from its own DXF, whether the batch contains 10 identical panels or 10 uniquely configured ones. Every panel is one-of-one.
Step 3: Powder coating
After cutting, panels are powder-coated to the RAL K5 colour specified in VEIL Studio. Default is Anthracite Grey 7016 Semi-Matt. The powder coat is applied electrostatically and cured in an oven — producing a durable, consistent finish across the full panel face and edges. No variation between panels in the same batch.
Step 4: Acoustic and backlit integration (if specified)
If aSoft acoustic backing was specified in VEIL Studio, it is applied at this stage — face or backer configuration as specified. If integrated backlighting was specified (2700K–6000K, 25W / 45W / 65W), it is integrated now. Both options are engineered in at manufacture. Not retrofitted on site. Not the contractor’s problem.
Step 5: Crating and despatch
Panels are crated for transit. The crating protects the powder-coated finish and panel edges during shipping. Panels arrive at site undamaged, ready to install. No site finishing. No touch-up. Drops into any standard 600×1200 metric or 2’×4′ imperial ceiling grid. Built in days. Shipped in weeks. The simple part is yours.
